It's definitely different taking a holiday with 2 children. I mean there was no 'laying on the sun lounger soaking up a few rays and reading a book while Mr Y entertained big sister' for me this year! I didn't even finish one book!!!
This was partly because it was so darn hot!
We've always taken big sister for a summer holiday, and our usual pattern would be that any naps etc would be taken in the push-chair or on the sun lounger. This year because of the intense heat and humidity (think dripping with wet the whole time!!! eugh!) I took mini R, and sometimes big sister, up to the air conditioned room for a few hours to nap. It was an ideal way to give them a break from the heat...
Thankfully both the kiddos love the water, so keeping them cool when we were at the pool wasn't an issue. Keeping them out of the sun was more of an issue, particularly big sister, as she wanted to be in the water all the time, but it didn't have any shady areas.
For mini R we'd create a play area in the shade surrounded by the sun loungers, and keep him entertained in there. We'd alternate between the pool and the makeshift play area.
Even though my mum and Step dad came with us and helped us a lot, it was still pretty full on - holidaying abroad with 2 children certainly introduced new dynamics, even with 4 adults on hand!!
We stepped foot out of our hotel very little during our weeks stay, which was just the way we wanted it this holiday.
The furthest we ventured out of the complex was Step Dad and I going for an early morning run every other day (boy that was hot, at least in the 80's at 8am). Mum, Chris and Mr Y ventured up to the Troodos mountains one day while mini R, big sister and me took a bus ride to Paphos old town. That was it - the rest of the time we hung out at the hotel, mainly at the pool, the bar, or the mini disco! (A few years ago I would of run away from a mini disco at speed - now it's a daily highlight of the holiday!!)
We had a lot of fun, I'd recommend Paphos as a good family holiday destination. For many reasons I wouldn't jump to recommend our hotel (Louis Ledra), and I think there are many better options out there for families within the same budget.
Here's a little snippet of our summer holiday fun...
